Online Bullying

What a wonderful start we have had to our year! As we navigate through our school year, your student will have access to more and more technology on their school issued iPads. Today in my blog I'd like to give you all some very important information about online bullying. Bullying in general, and particularly online bullying can become a big issue if we don't communicate and set strict boundaries with it. "When you first talk with your child about bullying, be prepared to listen without judgment, and provide a safe and supportive place where your child can work out his or her feelings. Children may not be ready to open up right away as they, too, are dealing with the emotional effects of bullying and may be feeling insecure, frightened, vulnerable, angry, or sad. When your child begins to tell their story, just listen and avoid making judgmental comments. It’s important to learn as much as possible about the situation, such as how long the behavior has been happening, who has been involved, and what steps have been taken. Encourage your child to talk, and let them know they are not alone and you are there to help." (PACER Center, n.d.)

Make sure your child knows:

  1. It is NOT their fault. They are not to blame.
  2. They are NOT alone. You are here to help.
  3. It is the adults’ responsibility make the bullying stop.
  4. Bullying is never okay and they have the right to be safe.
  5. No one deserves to be bullied.
  6. They deserve to be treated with respect.
  7. They have the right to feel safe at school.

Digital Citizenship

 Hello Second Grade Families!

Today I will be sharing what your students went over in class today about Digital Citizenship. "In a world dominated by virtual interactions, being a responsible digital citizen has never been more crucial. Students today grow up with social media, online classrooms, and digital communication tools that make the internet an extension of their everyday lives. However, along with the privileges of constant connectivity come risks that can affect users’ privacy, safety, and well-being. Understanding digital citizenship and building strong digital literacy skills, therefore, provides a framework for students to use technology ethically and securely." (Learning.com LcomTeam, 2025) We live in a technology driven world, and school is part of that. Students have received their district issued iPad. Now, while the district has installed safeguards to protect your students from accessing inappropriate sites using their iPad, it is still extremely important for them to learn and understand how to keep themselves safe while using the internet. I've included a link to a website to help you and your student learn more about internet safety and responsibility.

Digital Citizenship and Safety

Please take a look at this website with your students and help the understand the importance of their digital footprint and how the internet can be a dangerous place if not used correctly. Thank you for helping me keep your students safe.

Mrs. Brooks

Welcome to 2nd grade!

Hi! I'm Mrs. Brooks and I am so glad you are all here with me! This blog is a "behind the scenes" look at our 2nd grade world. A place where curiosity, creativity, laughter and learning happen! In my classroom I believe that big ideas come from the littlest of voices, and everyone has something important to share. This blog will serve as a way for family members to stay up to date on:

  • classroom happenings
  • learning activities and ideas for home
  • core curriculum achievements worth celebrating
  • resources and tips for families
  • glimpses of 2nd grade life
Second grade is a year of HUGE growth! Students become more confident in their education and blossom into more successful readers, strong writers, and deep thinkers. I get so much joy watching them discover what they are capable of, I wanted family members to share in it. This blog is a way to capture and celebrate all those moments. Thank you for being a part of our journey! Here's to learning and growing with a lot of fun along the way!
